Mayweather will face off against Andre Berto in Las Vegas on September 12 at the MGM Grand. Berto has lost three of his last six fights, including two losses to fighters who have already been beaten by Mayweather. Sports Interaction currently has Mayweather sitting as the -10000 favorite. To try and incite some interest in this fight, Mayweather has promised fans something he’s not exactly famous for providing – a knockout.

“With the way he comes, and with the way I’m going to come, if it’s not a knockout, there’s going to be some knockdowns,” Mayweather said. “A lot. And there’s going to be blood. There’s going to be knockdowns, and there’s going to be blood. A lot.”
Since 2007, Mayweather has fought and beaten nine opponents, yet only one of those wins was a KO.

Mayweather’s last fight against Manny Pacquiao was in May of this year, and many fans felt disappointed by the pace of the fight, which also happened to be the most lucrative boxing match in history. Berto even chimed in on that now infamous bout, saying he “knew how people felt (after the Pacquiao fight), and it’s my luck that I come right behind that. If I would have paid that type of money, I probably would have felt some type of way, too.”
Mayweather and his team are looking to charge $75 for the HD pay-per-view event, which will be the final fight in his contract with Showtime, and which will undoubtedly have viewers feeling some type of way.
Readers, bloggers and critics are all trying to make sense of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s recent move in choosing to fight former IBF/WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto on September 12th. To some it seems illogical, to some it really doesn’t matter and to others, it somewhat makes sense.

There is no straight answer to it, but to me this is as transparent as the air we breathe. It makes complete sense that Floyd “Money” Mayweather would not risk getting into a fight he is not 100% sure he can win; at least not at this stage of his career. This could “potentially” be the last fight of his brilliant boxing career.

If we look back at Mayweather’s two fights against Marcos Maidana, then look back at the Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight, it is known that Mayweather is not the same boxer he once was when he defeated Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar de la Hoya, Shane Mosley, Judah etc etc. I consider Mayweather at this very moment “the best”, while aware that there are still gaps that to many boxing fans and critics, will not be able to get filled up.
The division is quite competitive, yet Floyd believes that there are no other names in the sport of boxing left for him to fight. It is indeed, to a certain degree a true statement if you are talking money-wise and PPV-wise; but talent-wise, I believe that there is enough talent in the division to put his skills to the test.
Keith Thurman, Amir Khan, Erislandy Lara, Danny Garcia and Gennady Golovkin are some names that pop into many people’s heads. Never did I think of a Mayweather vs. Berto fight, especially as his “last” fight; which brings me to one conclusion. Mayweather must be setting the scenario up for a Manny Pacquiao rematch.
This really makes sense to me, and no, I am not crazy. While fans and critics are upset about Mayweather’s recent choice, we have to look at the bigger picture. We already know this man is smart, intelligent, and money driven. As a business man, if you make 300+ million dollars in 36 minutes once, if you had the opportunity again of making that much money a second time would you take it? Would you put you ego behind you for it (if any)?
Forget the network dispute nonsense, it was done once, it can be done again. Pacquiao has already shown willingness of taking a rematch against Mayweather. Mayweather has already shown willingness of continuing his career past 49 fights. The only fight that makes sense for Mayweather to “come back” would be a huge fight, record breaking fight, spot light fight, and the only man that can provide that is no one else than Manny Pacquiao. He already fought him once, he figured him out, he knows he can repeat the action.
While on Pacquiao’s end, he knows that he can do better a second time, he knows that without a recent injury perhaps he can mentally and physically perform better. They are both aware that the first fight was disappointing and boring. Knowing that they can give the fans a better deserved show while earning over 150 million dollars each, I do not see a problem why it should not get made. A rematch is evident-ally on both of their minds, despite Floyd’s allegations against Pacquiao and recent lawsuits that took place. The rematch will most likely be in May of 2016. Stay posted.
